We’re proud to share that Container Consulting Service (CCS) and our newest sustainable innovation, RecyCoolers, were recently featured in an NBC News article highlighting our role in reshaping the future of cold chain packaging.
The article, titled “‘RecyCoolers’ could help reduce use of environmentally harmful Styrofoam packaging”, explored the growing global demand for sustainable alternatives to EPS foam, and spotlighted CCS’s commitment to leading that change.
As packaging regulations tighten and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws gain momentum across the U.S., NBC recognized RecyCoolers as a timely and impactful solution that aligns with these evolving standards.
In this blog post, we’re proud to offer our own perspective and share more about how RecyCoolers came to life, what makes them unique, and why this innovation is such an important step forward for our customers and our planet.
Our Mission: Packaging That Performs Without Polluting
At CCS, we’ve spent decades helping companies protect their products, but we believe great packaging should also help protect the planet. That belief became the foundation for RecyCoolers, our newly launched line of 100% curbside recyclable cold chain shipping containers, officially unveiled on Earth Day 2025.
Crafted from post-consumer and post-industrial paper fiber, RecyCoolers can deliver over 100 hours of thermal protection, making them ideal for temperature-sensitive shipments in industries like pharmaceuticals, life sciences, food, and more.
Even better, once delivered, the entire cooler can be placed directly into any household recycling bin, no disassembly, no waste, no landfill.
Built for Performance. Designed for a Sustainable Future.
Unlike many traditional coolers made from environmentally harmful foam or plastic, RecyCoolers were engineered with sustainability and performance in mind.
Our team developed a patented paper-fiber insulation system, using open-cell woven or nonwoven fibers between fiber walls to replicate the insulation performance of expanded polystyrene without the environmental harm.
To ensure product reliability, RecyCoolers have been third-party tested and validated to meet ISTA Thermal and Transit standards, the same benchmarks required for cold chain shipping of pharmaceuticals and biologics.
So, our customers don’t have to choose between sustainability and protection, they get both.
Why Now? The Packaging Industry Is Changing
As highlighted in the NBC article, over 33 states have implemented EPR laws, and 7 states have passed legislation specifically targeting packaging waste, including EPS foam bans.
Globally, countries like Canada, Germany, and Zimbabwe have already restricted or banned polystyrene in packaging and food service applications.
The proposed Farewell to Foam Act and similar initiatives signal a clear direction for the future of packaging and RecyCoolers were designed to meet that moment.
A Message from Our Leadership
“We launched RecyCoolers to support a future where sustainability and performance go hand-in-hand,” says Julie Yetter Simpson, Co-Owner of CCS. “It’s about giving our customers an easy choice to do better, for their operations, and for the planet.”
What Industry Leaders Are Saying
Yaniv Abitan, Managing Director at Insulpack Group, said it best:
“RecyCoolers answer a major environmental call to action as the industry transitions away from single-use plastics and EPS foam. We recognize the urgent need for eco-friendly alternatives that don’t compromise performance.”
Join Us in Moving the Industry Forward
At CCS, we’re honored to have our work recognized by a national outlet like NBC News and we’re even more excited about the path ahead.
RecyCoolers represent not just a product, but a promise: to help our customers ship smarter, comply with changing regulations, and do their part in building a greener supply chain.
